The article discusses some approaches to improving the efficiency of the regional management system in the direction of increasing the level of economic security. A theoretical concept of the region's economic security has been developed in the form of a conceptual and meaningful description. Various points of view on the concepts of «region», «economic security», «organizational and economic mechanism» were analyzed. The main problem is the formation of an effective mechanism for ensuring regional economic security. In the course of the study, the specific features of the system for ensuring the economic security of the region were identified, and its goal was determined. The management tools for ensuring the economic security of the region were analyzed; the relevance of their application for a specific region was assessed. The content of the information and analytical block of the organizational and economic mechanism for ensuring the economic security of the region was revealed, which made it possible to substantiate the directions of development of individual elements of the regional management system. An effective mechanism for the functioning of any system acts as a basis for its stability. The information and analytical block, the organizational and economic mechanism for ensuring the economic security of the region, must simultaneously comply with the requirements of economic laws and take into account territorial features; to be a driving force of economic development in the region and a regulator of economic processes in order to increase the efficiency of regional management.
