The integration of Kazakhstan into the world community and improvement of competitiveness of the national economy require strengthening of the innovation component. Today, the main resource of the state towards progressive development of the national economy is the innovation activities of businesses. The research has shown that the innovative potential of Kazakhstan is used insufficiently, the innovation activity of businesses is low. For example, in 2013, the level of activity in the field of innovations was only 8%. The article highlights the main challenges impeding the active innovative development of businesses in Kazakhstan. It also identifies some priority directions of improving innovation activity of businesses and concrete ways for innovative entrepreneurship development.
