In this publication, the authors consider some global trends in investment and investment projects and the features of their implementation in the national economy. In today's global economy, the process of investing is becoming a popular and affordable means of generating additional income and preserving capital for individuals, commercial and public companies. The most common and relevant ways of investing include: investing in stocks and bonds, investing in real estate, investing in precious metals, investing in private companies or businesses, investing in cryptocurrencies or digital electronic currencies of countries, investing in exchange-traded mutual funds. The investment process in developed and emerging markets reflects a key global economic trend towards sustainable development. The article discusses the features of the investment process in the countries of the European Union, the emergence of new financial instruments as a form of investment – «green» investment. In the Russian Federation, investment policy is aimed at stimulating investment and creating and implementing more investment projects. One of the ways to stimulate the investment process was the creation of digital investment platforms. The authors analyzed the stages of investment projects in the country. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of investment projects and investment policy, the dynamics of investment in fixed capital in the Belgorod region. The trend of the country's transition to the development of an environmentally sustainable economy based on the principles of ESG is slowing down in the face of sanctions pressure. The development of new forms of financial instruments such as «green» investments and «green» financing will require government support measures through the creation of national financial instruments and institutions.
