Over the last two years, the Russian economy has been experiencing a negative external impact in the form of restrictive measures from unfriendly countries and, as a consequence, faces serious internal problems characterized by the decline in industrial production in certain sectors of the economy, imbalances in regional economic systems, growing social inequality, environmental degradation and other factors. Therefore, there is a need to increase knowledge and develop new methodological tools for managing the sustainability of regional development. Today the concept of sustainability includes social, economic and environmental aspects. The article presents the results of the research on the formation of the mechanism of sustainable development of regional economic systems.
