The article presents the results of the analysis of social development indicators of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation and reasons that hinder their growth. The aim of the study is to determine the trends of social development of the Central Federal District on the basis of an assessment of monetary income of the population, unemployment rate, life expectancy at birth, infant mortality for the period of 2005-2014. The relevance of the research is explained by the increasing interest in the real situation in the Central Federal District, their investment prospects, the actions of regional authorities aimed at the development of the social component in the regions.
