Resulting from the increased number of natural disasters and their negative social and economic consequences, the questions of flooding damage assessment come to the foreground to ensure the safety of life and sustainable development of the territories. One of the most promising tools of solving these problems is to study the dangerous natural processes and phenomena from the perspective of risk. On the territory of Belarus, about 400 settlements are located in potentially haz-ardous areas. The relevance of the study is confirmed by the historical trend of explo-ration and settlement on the territories near the rivers, where the majority of hayfields, plough lands, pastures and a number of settlements are located on bottomland areas, and are periodically subject to flooding. The article deals with some urgent questions of flood damage assessment. The risks of floods in Polesie region of Belarus are given a detailed consideration. The possible damages from the accidents at hydraulic structures in the context of the administrative districts of the Republic of Belarus are calculated. On their basis, the map of damages distribution among the administrative regions of the Republic of Belarus is developed.
