THE CURRENT STATE OF THE VEGETABLE GROWING INDUSTRY OF THE REGION: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

In the article, the author conducted an analysis of the current state of the vegetable growing industry in the Central Black Earth (CBE) Region, which covers Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk and Tambov regions. The author also identified possible areas for its future development. From 2020 to 2024, the CBE Region reduced the area of land allocated to growing vegetables. In Russia, the area sown with vegetable crops decreased by 7.0%, falling from 623.8 to 580.6 thousand hectares. Despite the reduction in the sown area for vegetable crops in some regions from 2020 to 2024, the growth in vegetable production in the Central Development Commission was due to an increase in yield, averaging 186.3 c/ha in the region. This increase in productivity was facilitated by the use of foreign-bred seeds and planting material, mineral fertilisers, and improved production equipment and technology. The vegetable growing industry demonstrates mixed trends: while production and state support are increasing, problems with profitability, logistics and dependence on external factors remain. The level of self-sufficiency in the Central Black Earth Region indicates a faster growth rate in vegetable production than consumption. However, there is a negative trend in market saturation. It should also be emphasised that state support for the vegetable growing industry is significant.
