PERSONAL INCOME AND EXPENSES IN PORTUGAL
Household incomes and expenditures are one of the most significant factors on the basis of which the idea of the standard of living of the population in the country is formed. Portugal is one of the poorest countries in the Western world, which attracted our interest, since the results of the study can be further used for comparative analysis with similar indicators in Russia. The study was conducted during the period beginning after the strong global crisis of the late 1980s and ending today before a probable new global crisis. The work is one of the first steps in a larger study of changes in the world economy and their impact on the standard of living of the population in various countries of the world, including Russia.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the income of households in Portugal for the period from 1990 to 2020, as well as the analysis of the expenditures of the countrys population for a similar period (1995-2019), both by item of expenditure and by the main geographical areas of Portugal. The objective of the study is to identify the causes of changes in the structure of income and expenditures of the population.
The study showed a general increase in the income of the population and the standard of living in Portugal in the analyzed period, as well as their impact on the structure of citizens expenses. The paper defines the impact of global political and economic processes on the dynamics of income and expenditures and the structure of household expenditures. A significant difference in the standard of living between the capital of Portugal and the regions was revealed, which is a global trend.
